about

"Husky Boys’ new album is proof that pop songs can take a lot. Recorded in June 2017 with Abronia’s Eric Crespo at the controls, Year of the Wolf finds Husky Boys ripping through the basement’s lo-fi ceiling and emerging into bold and bright spectrum they’ve deserved all along.

If you’ve been following Husky Boys since their inception, you’ll hear this album and think: this is the thing they were meant to make. If you’re new to the band, you’ll think: where the hell has this been my whole life? The person writing this bio can barely think straight, let alone write sentences that make sense, because Year of the Wolf makes him want to demolish his house and scream into the trees.

Riding riffs that wouldn’t be out of place on whatever classic rock radio station your cool parents favor, Helmsworth’s lyrics conjure an anxious plane where bodies and brains burn up with desire and dejection, and if there’s one thing Year of the Wolf is about, it’s the violence of a mind that can’t figure out why or how everything got so messed up. The songs here are haunted by the past and threatened by the future, stuck in a present that feels like way too much.

Husky Boys’ response to such too muchness is to fight and flail and scream and shred, to make something as untamed and unhinged as the world itself. This is shoot-for-the-sky, aim-for-the-stars stuff. It’s big and loud and wild and sad and fun and ambitious as all get out. It is vital rock ‘n’ roll."
